31-year-old aunt left with surprise babysitting duty at a family party, so she takes her 7-year-old niece home to make a point to her entitled sister: ‘Don’t dump your kid on me and leave’

Families help each other out sometimes, especially when it comes to childcare. 

It takes a village, right? This "village" that every parent brags about online doesn't just occur naturally, though; it's grown through the hard work and dedication of every family member and friend who steps up to help. An aunt was the go-to babysitter for her 7-year-old niece, and was happy to help occasionally, but when her entitled sister started dumping her child on her and disappearing for hours on end, being a member of her "village" was starting to look less and less appealing. 

There's a certain give and take to being an aunt or an uncle. Happy to help your sibling and eager to forge a relationship with your niece or nephew, oftentimes, aunts or uncles are expected to pick up the slack, and that's okay with them... To a point. If they're suddenly becoming the new full-time parent to this child, though, something is amiss. They signed up to be this child's part-time guardian, enjoying birthday parties, movie days, and inflatable bounce house jumpers on occasion, but only alongside the guarantee of a quiet night to themselves afterwards. 

That's the deal when you're an aunt or uncle, and this entitled mom didn't get that. She saw her sister as a 24/7 childcare option: no payment, no notice, and certainly no snacks prepacked. This aunt was expected to be on call at all times to be Mom #2, and finally, she got fed up with it. Sometimes, standing up to your family members is the hardest thing a person can do. But giving your sister a mini heart attack when her daughter is no longer at the family party, now that's a message that's going to stick with her forever. 

The girl was never lost, and she was never out of her auntie's care, but she did get an unexpected visit to her aunt's house, complete with mac and cheese, a Disney movie, and a surprise girls' night with her favorite aunt. Now that'll show Mom not to ditch her kid at the family party, expecting the aunt to stay late and pick up the slack…
